ZEP COACHING FAQs

  • What sets ZEP Mountain Bike Camps apart in Whistler?

ZEP Mountain Bike Camps are the pioneers of skills-based mountain bike coaching. For over 20 years, we set global coaching standards through PMBIA, shaping how instructors teach riders safely and effectively. Today, as the owners of the Global Syndicate of Mountain Bike Coaches (GSMBC), we continue to lead coach education worldwide, ensuring our programs reflect the latest techniques, analysis tools, and rider development strategies. At ZEP, every lesson is designed to build confidence, progression, and real-world skills for riders of all levels—making us the definitive choice for mountain bike coaching in Whistler.

  • WHAT BIKE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

While having your own well-maintained mountain bike, helmet, and gloves is recommended, it’s not essential. For enduro-style riding, a modern enduro bike—built to handle technical descents, jumps, and challenging trail features while remaining efficient on climbs—is ideal.

For Whistler Bike Park, a downhill bike isn’t required, though it can be a great option depending on your skill and experience level. Either way, we recommend a bike with at least 150mm of travel, high-quality brakes, and durable enduro or DH-rated tires to handle both the valley trails and bike park terrain.

If you don’t have your own equipment, our long-term retail and rental partner, Evolution Whistler, offers top-quality bikes and gear for camp participants.

  • What gear should I bring and wear for a ZEP camp?

Safety and comfort are a priority.

At a minimum, riders should bring a helmet, gloves, and knee pads for valley trails. For Whistler Bike Park, we require a full-face helmet, gloves, and knee pads.

Additional protective gear—such as a spine protector, elbow pads, and other body armour—is recommended based on your comfort, skill, and experience level. The right gear ensures confidence and safety while allowing you to progress faster.

  • What skill levels do ZEP mountain bike camps in Whistler cater to?

We welcome riders of all abilities—from complete beginners to advanced mountain bikers. Coaching is tailored to each rider’s skill level to ensure safe and effective progression.

  • How large are the coaching groups?

ZEP has led the way with quality over quantity coaching - with average group sizes of 3-5, with a max group size of 6 riders.

Groups are intentionally small so coaches can provide personal attention, detailed feedback, and adapt sessions to individual rider needs.

  • What age ranges are your programs designed for?

Kids Camps are from 6-12. Teen camps generally run for ages 13–17, and adult programs are open to riders 18+. Younger riders may be placed in specific programs based on ability and confidence.

  • What happens if it rains or trails are wet?

Camps running in Whistler valley operate in all weather conditions. Coaches adjust sessions for safety while still providing valuable learning experiences in different trail conditions.

For those sessions taking place in Whistler Bike Park, while they also operate in all weather conditions, the chairlift is subject to lightning and wind conditions, should they arise.

  • How can I choose the right program for me or my child?

Contact us with your riding experience, goals, and confidence level. We’ll recommend the most suitable program to match your needs.

  • Do ZEP camps cater to advanced riders?

Absolutely. Our coaches work with riders at all levels—from beginners to professionals—focusing on technical skills, cornering, jumps, and trail navigation. Riders receive targeted, actionable feedback to accelerate progression and refine their performance.
